“No
head injury is so serious as to be despaired of nor so trivial as
to be ignored.” Hippocrates
These
are the words that our group lives by! We are a group of people
from across York Region who are living with the effects of brain
injuries and trying to help each other get on with our lives in
the most positive ways we can. The York Region Head Injury Support
Group is organized completely by volunteers. Some of us have sustained
a brain injury ourselves; some are family or friends.
Our
mission is to provide support and information for those living with
the effects of brain injury. Since every single brain injury affects
the whole community in some way, we also focus a lot of attention
on brain injury prevention through information sessions and displays
in schools and other places. We also participate in various community
organizations by attending conferences and meetings in our region.
We work to raise awareness of brain injury issues in an attempt
to:
-
Prevent brain injuries whenever possible
-
Minimize the impact of those injuries that do happen
-
Make it possible for brain injury survivors in our community to
live with dignity and satisfaction to the fullest of their potentials
That’s
what we’re about. Everybody is welcome in our groups –
no matter the severity of the injury. We’re here to be friends
and learn and grow – we’re all in this together. |
